What was the first piece of jewelry you ever received or purchased for yourself?
The first meaningful piece I recall is a James Avery “best friends” heart charm from my fourth grade bestie. Another piece that comes to mind is a strand of Mikimoto pearls from my Mother presented during my senior year to wear during college sorority rush. I still have both items.
Tell us two of your qualities that make you a gem.
I am an extremely nurturing and optimistic person which helps me in my career as a physician. As a Pisces my intuition is precise and generally accurate and I have an uncanny ability to predict events before they actually occur. My loyalty is unwavering unless given a reason to doubt. I’m a hard worker and certainly not lazy.
Rubies, sapphires, or emeralds? And Why?
I would choose the ruby as it symbolizes energy, passion, power and a general zest for life. The ruby is believed to have medicinal qualities as well and apparently restores youth, vitality and circulation. Some say it shields us from negative energy. The ruby is deemed a stone that removes limitations and solidifies our courage, joy, spiritual qualities and selfless and meaningful endeavors. The ruby represents strength and is a stone meant to be worn by leaders.
Share with us your pearls of wisdom.
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is not to make excuses for yourself or others. If someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. Be honest with yourself and others. Choose friends wisely and hang onto them tightly. To have a friend you must first be a friend. Refrain from making assumptions about people or situations. Don’t be so quick to judge. Keep weight off. Don’t be piggish and sloppy. Take pride in the way that you present yourself. Stay active. Don’t be lazy. Seek knowledge and new experiences always- until the very end. Do one thing that makes you sweat and one thing that scares you every single day. Take your multi-vitamin. See your doctor regularly. Life is so very fleeting- make your time on this Earth count.
If you could click your ruby slippers together and transport to a vacation somewhere, where would it be?
My love for all things Italian is calling me to Italy again very soon. An African observation safari is high on my list. Anywhere with sunshine and a beach brings me joy. Mexico is a must a few times a year as well.
